Some nights you just want to curl up with a good book, a cup of hot chocolate and block out the rest of the world.There is nothing more relaxing and warming than a cup of hot chocolate, especially on a cold winter night.
Generally hot chocolate is perceived as an evil, sugar loaded, unhealthy beverage. Though this is true for store bought hot chocolate which is loaded with all kinds of chemicals, preservatives and artificial sweeteners; raw cacao is actually a great source of antioxidants, iron and flavonoids that is great for your skin and health.
Luckily, I have the perfect recipe for you to indulge in for a decadent and all natural hot chocolate drink! (aint I awesome?!)
Here is what you will need:
1 cup coconut milk
1 tbsp 100% organic maple syrup (in case you don’t have 100% organic maple syrup you can use raw honey, the flavor is slightly different but equally good)
1 tsp cacao powder
Optional Add-ons: If you like to add spices to your hot chocolate you can top it up with cinnamon, pumpkin spice or ginger. You can even add one tablespoon of hazelnut butter for a more nutty and creamy chocolate flavor.
Turn on the stove to low heat. Pour the coconut milk and maple syrup in a pan and slowly bring to boil.
When the milk has boiled add in the cacao powder, give it a couple of stirs and serve.
