Hazelnut Chocolate Hearts
- Dairy Free
- Gluten Free
- No Refined Sugar
When I started eating plant-based, avoiding meat and white bread was easy for me, I had never been much of a fan. The hardest part though, was avoiding chocolates and desserts. What can I say… i am punjabi and we are born with the biggest baddest sweeth tooth! And a major lack of control (or maybe that’s just me).
Though, I now crave a lot less of it than i used to, since I get my everyday sugar high from fruits, smoothies and stuff, but I do still love and need chocolate in my life! And I am sure we all do, even when we are on a diet or a cleanse – chocolate is that one thing we miss the most (brings back such though memories).
So, i recently tried making my own chocolate and LOVED it!! I have been experimenting in the kitchen to create delicious little treats that don’t cause havoc to your health or diet and doesn’t take much time to put together.
- These chocolate hearts are made with whole and natural ingredients and hardly require any effort to put together. Plus, I think home made chocolate is THE perfect gift for family and friends, or to take to dinner parties and get others hooked to healthier options too (throw on some nice wrapping – use lots of ribbons and mason jars).
Here is what you will need:
1/2 cup raw cacao
2 tablespoon almond butter
1/2 cup pure honey
1/2 cup extra virgin coconut oil
Place all the ingredients in a pan and place it on low heat on the stove till the mixture completely melts and combines smoothly, make sure there are no lumps. It should only take about a minute or so, do not overcook.
Remove the chocolate mixture and immediately pour in a tray (you can use a small baking or ice cube tray) . At this point, feel free to add any toppings, nuts, seeds or dry fruits you prefer in your chocolate. I added a couple of whole hazelnuts on top of each piece.
Now place the tray in the freezer for about an hour and your chocolate will be ready!
